Independent Living Inc. Pediatric Therapy opened its third pediatric therapy clinic for the following therapy services: occupational, physical and speech-language therapy in Saint Petersburg, FL. The over 3100 square foot facility is located in the Wittner Building at 5959 Central Avenue, Suite 102. We held our grand opening on Friday, April 8th, and if you missed it, we’ll share photos of the clinic throughout this article.

St. Petersburg Pediatric Therapy Clinic is a spacious facility that features:

• A comfortable lobby with a kid’s corner and a quiet reading lounge with bean bag chairs, and big people chairs, too.
• Individual therapy rooms stockpiled with therapy equipment, toys, books, etc.
• A complete physical therapy gym.
• A full size, feeding and swallowing therapy kitchen.
• A décor to bring the outside playground inside.

Our occupational therapy treatment rooms feature hundreds of manipulatives and games for infants, toddlers and children to play and interact with in order to improve neonatal and infant development, feeding and dysphagia, gross and fine motor development, sensory integration and modulation, activities of daily living, visual motor/perceptual skills, handwriting development, orthotics, prosthetics, and cognitive development.

Our physical therapy gym has a wall full of windows, providing natural light. Our gym has a hand crafted children’s play structure with slide, various swings, steps and stairs, scooter board, ramp, trampoline, balance beam, children’s ball pit, play house, chalkboard, various therapy balls, and much, much more. For speech-language therapy, we have a large treatment room featuring a wall of windows offering natural light and loads of games, puzzles, toys, books, puppets, and other activities to promote speech, language, and cognitive development. Our speech-language pathologists are thrilled to have a full gym with fun and exciting equipment to help teach toddlers and children new vocabulary through movement and experience. We have even included a full size kitchen, where our Speech-Language Pathologists offer feeding and swallowing therapy in a natural environment similar to a home kitchen for children with food aversion and dysphagia. We are hiring speech-langauge pathologists to work in the St. Petersburg Pediatric Therapy Clinic to help cover our caseload in the Pinellas, Sarasota and Manatee county areas.

Our early interventionists and infant toddler developmental specialists work in the home environment, and have encouraged us to include an infant/toddler treatment room into our pediatric therapy clinic. This space is equipped for occupational, physical and speech-language therapy with a high chair, bumbo chair, bolsters, soft climbing structure/cubes to encourage independence with crawling and standing. We have also provided age-appropriate infant toys to promote cognitive development for use in our infant development treatment room.

We are hiring early intervention and infant toddler development specialists to work with the Early Steps Program serving children birth to three years of age, and help cover our caseload in the Pinellas, Sarasota and Manatee county areas.

The spacious lobby/waiting area invites children to play in our kid’s corner, catch a kid friendly movie, or relax in our quiet reading lounge to enjoy a great book. Our lobby and clinic space features photographs of children playing in the park taken at an Easter Seals fundraiser called Portraits in the Park. We have taken great pride and enthusiasm to ensure a kid friendly space that brings the outdoor playground inside so that children look forward to coming to therapy each week. (Don’t worry parents; we have plenty of big people chairs, resource books and magazines for your entertainment too!)
