PSYCHOLOGICAL and BEHAVIORAL THERAPY

Psychological and Behavioral Therapy

Independent Living Inc. Pediatric Therapy provides three different psychological and behavioral therapy services:

  • Evaluation
  • Intervention
  • Consultation

  • EVALUATION

    • Diagnostic Evaluation:

      • A diagnostic evaluation is available to individuals of all ages and may consist of an observation, parent interview, measure of adaptive behavior/cognitive level, assessment of comorbid symptoms (e.g., depression, ADHD, and a feedback session). Parents will receive a comprehensive report detailing results and intervention recommendations.
    • Follow-up Evaluation:

A follow-up evaluation consists of a behavior observation as well as an interview during which caregivers are invited to discuss their child’s development and current intervention program. Updated intervention recommendations are provided based on child and family needs.

  • INTERVENTION

    • Individual therapy is individualized according to patient and family needs but may include behavior therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and play-based intervention.
    • Individual, marriage, and family therapy is available to family members to target issues related to raising a child with special needs.
    • Caregiver Training is available. Caregivers are taught how to interact with their child in a way that will facilitate communication, social skills, play, and other appropriate behaviors.
  • CONSULTATION

    • Consultation is available to area schools and community agencies to develop behavior plans and treatment goals, and to assist with program development and staff training.
    • Consultation is available to families to assist with program development, coordination of intervention services, and training and supervision of therapists through videotape review, modeling, and observation.
